The Fear to Look Within
There is another advantage, and a very important one, in referring decisions to the Holy Spirit with increasing frequency. Perhaps you have not thought of this aspect, but its centrality is obvious. To follow the Holy Spirit's guidance is to let yourself be absolved of guilt. It is the essence of the Atonement. It is the core of the curriculum.
 Obstacles to PeaceTruly there are no "obstacles to peace" we cannot transcend together in forgiveness. Forgiveness is letting go of valuing the ego, which could also be called death. The ego is an attempted denial of God. Yet such a belief cannot really change the truth of God's Love, for nothing can change eternal Love. Yet while the ego seems to offer something of value, God's Answer cannot be completely heard or accepted. For the ego is the belief that there can be a substitute for God. And the Holy Spirit teaches that there is no Love but God's All encompassing Love.
The "attraction of death" is an attraction to a made up identity image and to all the distractions and defences that are part of the image. The image is the ego, or death, and it attempts to masquerade as a real entity with a life of its own with the power the sleeping mind gives to it. The ego cannot be an obstacle to peace if belief is withdrawn from it and faith is placed in the Holy Spirit.
The ego, death, seems attractive only because it seems to offer an alternative to God, Who is feared by the sleeping mind as an angry and punitive God. God is nothing of the sort, but to a mind asleep that believes it has actually separated from God, this is its unconscious fear. It has projected its fear onto a made up "angry" god and is afraid to turn to this god for help.
There seem to be pleasures associated with the made up image and its world, fleeting as they may be. And to the sleeping mind these pleasures are attractive and therefore sought after. Yet idols never give lasting joy and contentment, for they are temporal. They rise and they fall, for they could never substitute for eternal Love. While the ego and its idols are valued or attractive, by definition "death" still seems attractive to the sleeping mind. For again, the ego is synonymous with death. There is no death. This is realised in the Light of God's Love.
The ego has no foundation and illusions are but error. Once faith has been withdrawn from the error, the error is no more to be experienced as real. This is the meaning of Awakening, the overcoming of death. You allow the Spirit to raise the ego error to the Light of Truth (bring illusions to truth), and the darkness of death is no more. Death is not the death of the body. Death was the error that separation from God could actually occur. To transcend the ego then, is to transcend a belief in the impossible. Once death is seen for the illusion it is, it is no longer attractive. For who would choose illusions when the Light of Truth is Experienced as Love, and when Love is no longer feared. I am joined with you in the Life and Love of God. You are as perfect and changeless as God created You. And I give thanks we are One Self. Amen.

Before your brother's holiness the world is still, and peace descends on it in gentleness and blessing so complete that not one trace of conflict still remains to haunt you in the darkness of the night. He is your savior from the dreams of fear. He is the healing of your sense of sacrifice and fear that what you have will scatter with the wind and turn to dust. In him is your assurance God is here, and with you now. While he is what he is, you can be sure that God is knowable and will be known to you. For He could never leave His Own creation. And the sign that this is so lies in your brother, offered you that all your doubts about yourself may disappear before his holiness. See in him God's creation. For in him his Father waits for your acknowledgment that He created you as part of Him.
Without you there would be a lack in God, a Heaven incomplete, a Son without a Father. There could be no universe and no reality. For what God wills is whole, and part of Him because His Will is One. Nothing alive that is not part of Him, and nothing is but is alive in Him. Your brother's holiness shows you that God is One with him and you; that what he has is yours because you are not separate from him nor from his Father.
Forget not that the healing of God's Son is all the world is for. That is the only purpose the Holy Spirit sees in it, and thus the only one it has. Until you see the healing of the Son as all you wish to be accomplished by the world, by time and all appearances, you will not know the Father nor yourself. For you will use the world for what is not its purpose, and will not escape its laws of violence and death. Yet it is given you to be beyond its laws in all respects, in every way and every circumstance, in all temptation to perceive what is not there, and all belief God's Son can suffer pain because he sees himself as he is not.
 Look on your brother, and behold in him the whole reversal of the laws that seem to rule this world See in his freedom yours, for such it is. Let not his specialness obscure the truth in him, for not one law of death you bind him to will you escape. And not one sin you see in him but keeps you both in hell. Yet will his perfect sinlessness release you both, for holiness is quite impartial, with one judgment made for all it looks upon. And that is made, not of itself, but through the Voice that speaks for God in everything that lives and shares His Being.
Specialness is the function that you gave yourself. It stands for you alone, as self-created, self-maintained, in need of nothing, and unjoined with anything beyond the body. In its eyes you are a separate universe, with all the power to hold itself complete within itself, with every entry shut against intrusion, and every window barred against the light. Always attacked and always furious, with anger always fully justified, you have pursued this goal with vigilance you never thought to yield, and effort that you never thought to cease. And all this grim determination was for this; you wanted specialness to be the truth.
Now you are merely asked that you pursue another goal with far less vigilance; with little effort and with little time, and with the power of God maintaining it, and promising success. Yet of the two, it is this one you find more difficult. The "sacrifice" of self you understand, nor do you deem this cost too heavy. But a tiny willingness, a nod to God, a greeting to the Christ in you, you find a burden wearisome and tedious, too heavy to be borne. Yet to the dedication to the truth as God established it no sacrifice is asked, no strain called forth, and all the power of Heaven and the might of truth itself is given to provide the means, and guarantee the goal's accomplishment.
You who believe it easier to see your brother's body than his holiness, be sure you understand what made this judgment. Here is the voice of specialness heard clearly, judging against the Christ and setting forth for you the purpose that you can attain, and what you cannot do. Forget not that this judgment must apply to what you do with it as your ally. For what you do through Christ it does not know. To Him this judgment makes no sense at all, for only what His Father wills is possible, and there is no alternative for Him to see. Out of His lack of conflict comes your peace. And from His purpose comes the means for effortless accomplishment and rest. Excerpts T-24.V1
 Letting go the Purpose of the World! Wow, where do I begin??? This past month has been a walk through specialness and an undoing of the belief in a little self. Determined to uphold its identity full of pain and suffering and fear of losing everything it beheld as safe, I have begun to see the fierce self hatred, and more than that, the attachment to upholding this belief! I have felt the anger towards God for not accepting the small self. Yet the source of my anxiety is identifying with the ego and the world I had not recognised that I had made! The childish tantrum I experience at things not going my way, at not being in charge and, fortunately, can no longer keep hidden, has revealed to me the egos defence and resistance at the thought of surrendering into Love.
Here at Living Waters with The Messengers of Peace, I have felt an intensive opening up of the wound of the special me! The torch of Love is bringing light to all the ways I duck and weave compromising my function in God to awaken to My Holy Self. The ego's drive to 'do' is dissolving as I find myself supported by the Spirit in many beautiful ways even the turnaround of having Kirsten and Jackie serving me (!) with delicious meals and the humble day to day tasks of stacking wood and sweeping floors! I have feared rejection and yet underneath I see I have already rejected my Self! Afraid of the silence and emptiness I believe myself to be I 'do' in form to maintain a separate identity rather than to sink within and experience the Miracle of a shift in Mind and the Grace that is waiting for acceptance!
The Spirit has guided me to further question the personal me and belief in a body. I have been distracted by thoughts of sickness and felt the prompt to look once more into the belief of the body being me, around which this seeming life revolves. I was shown that I use the weapon of sickness to attack my brother and uphold the separation. I feel revolted as I write this as I experience a deep upwelling of the pain of Self denial through the murder of my dear Brother.
Sounds dramatic I know but fortunately this is where Jesus glides in and reminds me that only the Mind is capable of error. The body can seem to act on its own but it is only responding to mis-thought. The body cannot create, and the belief that it can, a fundamental error produces all physical symptoms. I was reminded that the Miracle precedes healing and the Miracle is in the Spirit's hands when I am willing to see every projection as an opportunity to see with the Spirit's vision and enter the Silence to receive God's Love.
Yesterday Kirsten reminded me of my desire to open our Community gatherings to those further afield, and give it our all, by offering our next gathering as a Spirit guided Retreat. At first I felt the familiar fear of God arise (ego tantrum!) and then with exposure, prayer and communication with my Brothers I had the beautiful experience of the certainty of giving and joining in collaboration as the healing of the belief in a body with autonomous needs and pursuits.
The willingness to join where and with whom I am guided, is the path out of the dream of fear and death! This is the welcoming of the Miracle and the joyous realisation I have accepted the Atonement for mySelf!

 I Will not fear to Look Within today.Within me is eternal innocence, because it is God's Will that it be there forever and forever. I, His Son, whose will is limitless as is His Own, can will no change in this. For to deny my Father's Will is to deny my own. To look within is but to find my will as God created it, and as it is. I fear to look within because I think I made another will that is not true, and made it real. Yet it has no effects. Within me is the Holiness of God. Within me is the memory of Him.
The step I take today, my Father, is my sure release from idle dreams of sin. Your altar stands serene and undefiled. It is the holy altar to my Self, and there I find my true Identity.

Donald and Isabelle meet when Isabelle joins Donald's Aspergers syndrome support group. Due to their 'condition', they find it very difficult to people-please, hold back private thoughts, or to analyse the motives of others and then adjust their own behaviour accordingly. They desire consistency and order, and find the world chaotic and unpredictable. They are often unable to hide their fear or their coping mechanisms behind layers of complicated defences. In terms of spiritual development, this is advancement! But even with the ability to speak freely and not hide feelings, Holy relationship is only possible when the desire to fit into the world is released. Watch the trailer here. |
